Welcome to the Skilled Trades Ontario Portal

The Skilled Trades Ontario Portal provides individuals with secure access to online services.

As the Government of Ontario hosts the Skilled Trades Ontario Portal, creating a My Ontario Account is required to access services online.

Additional online services are being released in phases, with the goal of building a one-window digital channel for all skilled trades and apprenticeship clients by 2025.

How to create a new portal account

The steps and requirements to create a new Skilled Trades Ontario Portal account depends on your situation.

  • If you are applying for an apprenticeship
    1. Ensure that you have the necessary information to complete your online application. Refer to the Start an apprenticeship page for a list of the information you will need, or contact Skilled Trades Ontario by phone at 647-847-3000, or Toll Free in Ontario at 1-855-299-0028, Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 7:00 pm EST.

You must be 18 years of age or older to submit an online application for apprenticeship. You can still apply for an apprenticeship if you are under 18 years of age, but you must download and submit a paper application to Skilled Trades Ontario:

      • by email: apprenticeship@skilledtradesontario.ca or
      • by mail: Skilled Trades Ontario, PO Box 2354 RPO SQ1 Shoppers, Mississauga, ON L5B 3C8
    2. Create a My Ontario account to apply online for an apprenticeship (if you are 18 years of age or older).
    3. Follow the steps to submit your application for apprenticeship.
  • If you are a registered Ontario apprentice

Your information has been automatically transferred to Skilled Trades Ontario.

    1. Ensure that you are accessing your existing account when you create your My Ontario Account. You must use the same email address that you used when registering your training agreement with the Ministry, or if applicable, when you set up your online account before January 1, 2022.

If you are unsure of which email address is on file or if you need to update your email address, please contact Skilled Trades Ontario at (647)-847-3000 or toll-free (Ontario only) 1-855-299-0028, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST.

If you had an online account before January 1, 2022, you will be prompted to create a new password. Your previous account number is your Skilled Trades Ontario account number.
    2. Create a My Ontario account to access the Skilled Trades Ontario Portal.
  • If you are a sponsor

At this time, sponsors are only able to view the status of applications submitted through the Skilled Trades Ontario Portal; sponsors are not able to view a comprehensive list of all apprentices they are sponsoring.

To support the administration of apprenticeships, it is possible to have more than one person accessing a sponsor account. Once you have created a sponsor account for your organization or business, as the primary sponsor, you can then add sponsor administrators and sponsor representatives to your account.

Sponsor administrators and sponsor representatives can complete the same activities as you. Sponsor administrators can also add other sponsor administrators and representatives to your account.

When a sponsor administrator or sponsor representative is added to your account, they will receive an email notification with instructions on next steps for accessing the account.

To create a Primary Sponsor account:

To apply on behalf of your first apprentice, create a My Ontario account and follow the steps to submit an application. Or, you can print and complete a paper application and send it to Skilled Trades Ontario:

    • by email: apprenticeship@skilledtradesontario.ca or
    • by mail: Skilled Trades Ontario, PO Box 2354 RPO SQ1 Shoppers, Mississauga, ON L5B 3C8

If you have registered an apprentice (or apprentices) in the past and would like to train an additional apprentice (or apprentices), you can create a Skilled Trades Ontario Portal account by following the steps below.

    1. You will need to have a Sponsor ID# to access your Skilled Trades Ontario account online.

If you do not remember, or do not have, a Sponsor ID#, contact Skilled Trades Ontario by phone at 647-847-3000, or Toll Free in Ontario at 1-855-299-0028, Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 7:00 pm EST.

    2. To find out what email address to use when creating your My Ontario account, contact Skilled Trades Ontario by phone at 647-847-3000, or Toll Free in Ontario at 1-855-299-0028, Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 7:00 pm EST.
    3. Create a My Ontario account to access the Skilled Trades Ontario Portal.
  • If you are a completed Ontario apprentice

If you have an Ontario Certificate of Apprenticeship or a Provisional Certificate of Qualification, Skilled Trades Ontario has your information.

If you had a membership number before January 1, 2022, it is now your Skilled Trades Ontario account number.

    1. Ensure that you are accessing your existing account when you create your My Ontario Account. You must use the same email address you used when you registered your training agreement with the Ministry or when you set up your account.

If you are unsure of which email address is on file or if you need to update your email address, please contact Skilled Trades Ontario at (647) 847-3000 or toll-free (Ontario only) 1-855-299-0028, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST.

You will be prompted to create a new password, even if you had online access to your account before January 1, 2022.

    2. Create a My Ontario account to access the Skilled Trades Ontario Portal.
  • If you are an Ontario-certified journeyperson

If you have a Certificate of Qualification that was registered after April 8, 2013, Skilled Trades Ontario has your information.

If you had an account number before January 1, 2022, it is now your Skilled Trades Ontario account number.

    1. Ensure that you are accessing your existing account when you create your My Ontario Account. You must use the same email address you used when you set up your account.

If you have a Certificate of Qualification that was issued by the Ontario government before April 8, 2013, and it was not registered after that date:

    1. Contact Skilled Trades Ontario at (647) 847-3000 or toll-free (Ontario only) 1-855-299-0028, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST to add an email address to your account and gain access to online services.
    2. Use the email address you added to create a My Ontario account to access the Skilled Trades Ontario Portal.
  • If you hold a Canadian certificate

If you have a certificate, license or credential from another Canadian province or territory and would like to obtain an Ontario Certificate of Qualification, please note that the Canadian certificate holder application is currently not available through the Skilled Trades Ontario Portal. You must use the PDF application form and email or mail your application to Skilled Trades Ontario.

    1. Review the Canadian Certificate Holder Guide and Form and follow the application instructions.
    2. Once your application is approved and you are issued a Certificate of Qualification, you may then use the Skilled Trades Ontario Portal to update your information, pay fees or initiate other applications.
  • If you hold a recognized Canadian Forces trade qualification certificate

If you have a Canadian Forces Certificate of Military Achievement with a Qualification Level 5 (QL5) or Developmental Period 2 (DP2) in one of nine matched trades:

    1. Review the Trade Qualifier Application Guide and Skilled Trades Ontario’s Canadian Forces webpage to ensure you have a Canadian Forces trade qualification that matches with an Ontario trade.
    2. Obtain a copy of your Members Personnel Record Resume (MPRR) to upload with your application.
    3. Create a My Ontario account to access the Skilled Trades Ontario Portal. Then, when prompted, select Individual, create a New application and select Trade Equivalency Assessment and follow the steps to submit your application.
  • If you are an experienced worker

Skilled Trades Ontario’s Trade Qualifier application process enables experienced tradespeople who are not already certified in a trade and have not completed an Ontario apprenticeship (i.e. Trade Qualifiers) to become eligible to attempt the certifying examination to obtain a Certificate of Qualification.

A Trade Equivalency Assessment is the first step for Trade Qualifiers who do not have a recognized trade qualification, but who have equivalent skills and years of experience in a trade.

If you are a tradesperson with equivalent skills and years of experience in a trade and would like to apply for a Trade Equivalency Assessment:

    1. Review the Trade Qualifier Guide carefully to ensure that you meet the skills and experience requirements.
    2. Collect all supporting documentation before applying. If you apply without attaching all supporting documents, it will cause a delay and you will be required to submit the documents before the assessment can begin.
    3. Create a My Ontario account to access the Skilled Trades Ontario Portal. Then, when prompted, select Individual, create a New application and select Trade Equivalency Assessment and follow the steps to submit your application.
