Metal Fabricator (Fitter)

A Metal Fabricator (Fitter) builds, assembles and repairs products made of ferrous and non ferrous metals for use in a wide variety of manufacturing and construction industries. Specifically, a Metal Fabricator (Fitter):

  • reads and interprets engineered drawings, sketches, codes and standards
  • plans the sequence of tasks and executes fabrication safely and efficiently
  • performs calculations and applies shop formulas by using mathematical methods to develop patterns
  • completes the task of measuring, marking and laying out a variety of plate and structural shapes
  • sets up and operates trade specific machinery to cut and form parts to be assembled
  • assembles and fits parts to form sub-assemblies or complete units used in the manufacturing process
  • connects components using various welding processes and mechanical fasteners
  • utilizes material handling, rigging, hoisting and lifting equipment safely
  • performs job duties safely and with precision ensuring compliance with drawings and applicable codes and standards

Thin Film Technician

A Thin Film Technician works with:

Draftsperson Tool and Die Design

A Draftsperson – Tooling and Die Design performs some or all of the following duties:

  • Develops and prepares engineering designs and drawings
  • Operates computer-aided design and drafting stations
  • Develops and prepares design sketches
  • Completes documentation packages and produce drawing sets
  • Checks and verifies design drawings
  • Writes technical reports
  • Checks prepared contracts and tender documents
  • Designs and produces simple to complex templates and patterns
  • Designs mechanical equipment for tool and die manufacturing
  • Designs tooling for tooling, dies, and modifications
  • Designs components parts and attachments

Mould Designer

A Mould Designer is able to design all types of moulds by:

  • Demonstrating safe working practices and techniques
  • Reading and interpreting a piece-part drawing
  • Analyzing piece part for mouldability/manufacturability
  • Conveying information to CAD program/system
  • Determining the type of mould
  • Designing layout of mould components/parts
  • Designing sequencing of multi-plate openings
  • Creating a mould/tooling design
  • Detailing and dimensioning the mould/tooling design
  • Finalizing the mould drawing/design
  • Implementing construction of the mould
  • Archiving/maintaining files

Tool and Cutter Grinder

A Tool and Cutter Grinder performs some of the following:

  • Sets up and operates grinder machines such as surface, cylindrical, pedestal, and tool or cutter grinders to shape or sharpen precision cutting tools and cutters.

Electric Motor System Technician

An Electric Motor System Technician performs some or all of the following:

  • Disassembles, diagnoses, rewinds, repairs, tests, and reassembles components of electric motors, transformers, switchgears, and generators.

Mould Maker

A Mould Maker:

  • Reads and interprets complex engineering drawings and work-process documentation
  • Designs, builds, and repairs moulds and models used to mass produce plastic or metal components or products
  • Builds precision mould components using conventional and numerically controlled metal-cutting machines and equipment including saws, drills, grinders, lathes, mills, and EDMs
  • Performs work-in-process measuring or checking using specialized and precision tools and equipment
