Michael Sherrard, Chair, is Managing Partner of Sherrard Kuzz LLP, an employment and labour law firm. He is one of Canada’s leading employment and labour lawyers, recognized by Chambers Global®, Lexology® (Global Elite Thought Leader), Legal 500®, Best Lawyers® and Lexpert® and a Fellow of the prestigious College of Labor and Employment Lawyers®. Michael is former Chair of the National Labour and Employment Law Section of the Canadian Bar Association, and the Labour and Employment Law Section of the Ontario Bar Association. He holds the designation, King’s Counsel.
A teacher who gave up the classroom for the courtroom, Michael understands and is committed to youth education and opportunity, and the community at large. He serves on the boards of directors of Skills Canada (Ontario) and Canadian Apprenticeship Foundation. In October 2020, the Government of Ontario appointed Michael as Chair of the Skilled Trades Panel. The Panel’s work resulted in a series of recommendations to the Premier’s Office, strengthening Ontario’s long-term strategy for skilled trades development.
Michael is the recipient of several awards including the Construction Institute of Canada’s Chancellor’s Award of Excellence, University of New Brunswick Alumni Award of Distinction, Council of Ontario Construction Associations (COCA) Hard Hat Award of Excellence, and USports Lester B. Pearson Award (among others).
Michael graduated from the University of New Brunswick with a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Education.
